In preparation for the college Freshers' Fair, we have restored the robot to working condition! The latest clips can be seen on Instagram. The revival involved reducing the size of the frame, reconnecting the various electronics, and, of course, developing the software. In its current state, the robot is able to track and identify markers and be driven around with an Xbox controller. Students starting at the college next academic year will be able to have a go at driving the robot on Thursday the 25th and Friday the 26th. We kept the core components from the competition, including the stepper motors and drivers for the wheels, a LiPo battery for power, a Raspberry Pi for the script, and an Arduino to interface with the drivers. One major improvement was the addition of boost converters, allowing the motors to run at a higher voltage, improving their strength, stability, and speed.
